The Hidden Danger Behind Campaign Convoys: Why Covering Your Car’s Front Is Mechanically Risky

As Uganda’s campaign season heats up, our roads are filled with colour, excitement, and convoys of vehicles supporting their favourite candidates. Unfortunately, one common sight we’ve observed as S-Line Motors Ltd is also one of the most mechanically hazardous ,cars with their entire front ends wrapped or covered in banners and posters.

While the intention is patriotic, the result can be devastating for your vehicle. Your car’s radiator and front grille play a vital role in cooling the engine. When covered with campaign material, air can no longer flow freely into the radiator. This means the engine cannot release heat efficiently , especially during slow-moving convoys or prolonged idling under the sun.

Over time or even within a single long convoy, this causes:

Engine overheating, which can lead to head gasket failure or warped engine components. Transmission damage in automatic cars due to excessive heat build-up. Reduced fuel efficiency as the engine works harder to maintain performance. Premature wear of cooling fans and other components forced to overwork. Unlike highway driving, campaign convoys move slowly ,sometimes for hours, meaning your cooling system gets no fresh airflow, while your radiator is literally suffocating behind a banner.

A Safer Way to Show Support

Display your campaign enthusiasm responsibly , use flags, stickers, or window decals that don’t block essential ventilation points or lights. Protect your vehicle’s health while supporting your candidate. At S-Line Motors Ltd, we encourage all motorists to prioritize vehicle safety this campaign season. A little awareness today could save your engine and your life from a car fire/excess heat harzard tomorrow.
